WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN A MASSAGE THERAPY?

As with most ayurvedic therapies, you will be asked questions about your general health, lifestyle, food habits, physical status of your body, and you will also be asked about your type of skin, whether you have an allergic reaction to any particular oil or herbs, etc.  This short session enables Bhagavatamrita to choose the right medicated oils and massage technique for you.

If you have any concerns regarding removing your clothes and exposing your body parts, you can express this during this session. The ayurvedic massage process involves applying a lot of oil hence disposable underwear and towels are provided.  Bhagavatamrita will always try and make you feel relaxed, safe and comfortable throughout your Massage treatment. You will be covered with towels throughout, and only the parts being massaged will be exposed, ensuring you feel warm and secure.

The massage session involves you lying down on a table specially designed for massage purpose and Bhagavatamrita applying oils on you and massaging your body in a series of movements.  Oil will be applied throughout your body including your head and hair.  After the massage, you can lie down and relax peacefully whilst receiving a short sound therapy session to finalize.  You then have the option to take a shower to wash the oil away. Drink some water for hydration and enjoy the wonderful effect the massage has brought about on your body and mind.

Appointments:

  • When scheduling an appointment for, keep in mind that you may need additional rest following the treatment.
  • The ayurvedic therapies cleanse the mind and senses.  Make use of this time and avoid unnecessary stimulation after your treatment.  Avoid large crowds (concerts, restaurants/bars, large gatherings) and make the remainder of your day peaceful. This is your time for mental rest.
  • Eat lightly before your appointment. All the therapies have an effect on the digestive system and a full stomach is not advised.
  • Your hair will be saturated with oil.  Dress appropriately and comfortably. Don’t wear your Sunday best, something you don’t mind getting oil on.
  • It is advised to leave the oil in your hair for at least a few hours following the treatment and if possible best to leave the oil in your hair overnight.
  • Prepare to cover your head following the treatment.  If the weather is cool, windy or cold, bring an old warm hat, again something you don’t mind getting oil on.  An old scarf works well to cover the head and hair in warmer weather. A plastic shower cap also works well.
  • The easiest way to remove oil from your hair is to add shampoo to your hair before adding water. The shampoo will grab hold of the oil so it can be easily rinsed out.
  • Avoid caffeine for a few days.  Caffeine creates disharmony in the body, especially after Shirodhara, it can have an immediate negative effect on your nervous system. If you are in need of a pick-me-up try juice or a piece of fresh fruit.
